My expections for this course from the onset were to increase my exposure and knowledge of art as a profession, expand my dialect in critiquing artwork and to become more familiar with different techniques that are used in creating art. Upon conclusion of this coursework, I feel very satisfied that I have met my expections to do so.
I would not redefine what my original thoughts on "What is Art?" from my first comments. I still feel that art is an expression of thought and feeling transformed into a visual expression and means to record that thought and feeling.
While, my original favorite artists remain the same, I can honestly say I have added to that list. From exposure to various artists in the text and visits to the art galleries, I can add Picasso and Matisse to my favorites. I include Picasso because of the various medium he explored freely, and his eagerness to do so. I include Matisse because he conitnuously overcame periods of angst by continuing to work, even when he could no longer stand to paint, he found another way to express his thoughts and feelings.
I feel the online forum for education exciting. I would like to take more classes on line and now understand why so many "on line university programs" exist today. It is convenient to do so. My only frustration was my on line access through hughesnet had limits to how much access allowed per day. I have a 3rd level plan at $189/month, and still had to purchase a few daily tokens ($12.50 each), to view the videos. This all is due to the fair access policy. If I want unlimited access, my cost would be almost $300/month and that is just absurd, however, with gas prices now above $4/gal, and a 2 hour commute to Buffalo State College, the cost for internet is almost half that of gas!!! Wow!
I would add that I do like the interaction and instant feedback discussion that exists in my studio art classes. It is difficult replace the human contact and conversation with an online forum where we don't have that opportunity to really interact. The content of this course and the way it is presented was a perfect combination to make the online forum successful for me.
