Elements and Principles of Design

This week, I had fun sifting through folders of photographs in order to analyze their compositions.  Searching for elements and principles of design, also gave me an opportunity to critique my photographs from an art perspective.  Some of my compositions were very good, and some, like many people do, are indicative of taking a picture to catch the moment quickly without thought about elements that interfere.  Some photos offered me the opportunity to think about how the compositions could be better but considering the elements and principles more so than just quick clicks of the shutter to catch the moment.

  1. I don't even know where to begin with this one besides just saying that I loved every single picture you used. My two very favorites are variety and movement i had to look at them a few times because I liked them so much. My second runner ups were shape and movment those were two very cute pictures.

  2. Thank you so much for choosing my blog to review. I enjoyed this assignment, it also has made me more aware of elements and principles of design when I take a photograph. The photo I chose for shapes is one of my favorites because these kittens just showed up in my wood pile and all five peeked out at the same time. This one was just the sweetest!

  3. Monica,
You did an excellent job implementing the elements and principles in these pictures. My favorite picture was the picture of the hummingbird. This is a really good example of showing movement. I also thought the picture of the body of water and with the birds flying shows the element of line well.
    Again, nice work!

  4. Monica great job on your blog about the Elements and Principles of Design! I made a connection right away with your first picture because I feel as if it was taken from my own backyard! I immediately thought that this picture had to come from around Wilson NY, after looking at the rest of the pictures I think I am close with the Toronto skyline in the background of your picture for 'line'! I never get sick of watching that horizon light up every night! Great Job!

  5. Yes, it was taken on my cousin's property on Lake Road in Wilson. I love this area also. Thank you for reviewing my blog!

  6. Nice work on your elements and principals of design art project!! I really enjoyed the hummingbird on your movement category. You really could not describe movement any better than that photo does. The hot air balloon photos are very interesting as well as the texture photo. I think all and all you represented all the elements and did a great job.

  7. Was the first picture taken at Four Mile Creek campgrounds?! It looks very familiar and I go there every summer to camp. I love watching the sunset over the water and seeing Toronto in the distance!! If that is not where I am thinking, then it looks very similar!! You did a great job on your pictures, you are a very good photographer.
